Opposing Amendment 1

The Boone County Republican Central Committee voted unanimously at its October meeting to oppose Amendment 1 on the 2018 November ballot. Our resolution is below.

WHEREAS, the Clean Missouri Initiative does not repair any existing issue within Missouri’s current redistricting process; and

WHEREAS, the Clean Missouri Initiative removes the people of Missouri’s say in redistricting and instead places the power in the hands of an unelected and unaccountable bureaucrat appointed by the state auditor, which is currently the only Democrat statewide office holder; and

WHEREAS, after being rejected time and time again at the ballot box, the Clean Missouri organizers, a George Soros backed effort, are working to dilute the voice of rural Missourians to promote their pro-abortion and anti-farming agenda; and

WHEREAS, by using an unproven formula called the “efficiency gap,” the Clean Missouri Initiative inherently conflicts with the Voting Rights Act’s current protection for majority-minority districts; and

WHEREAS, the Clean Missouri Initiative protects political parties at all cost above the interests of Missouri voters:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Republican Central Committee of Boone County oppose the purposely misleading and potentially detrimental Clean Missouri Initiative.

Adopted this 16th day of October, 2018, at the Boone County Republican Central Committee of the Missouri Republican Party.
